Based in Port Moresby and reporting to the Collections Manager and CEO, this is an important role within the organisation responsible for the preparation of court and other documents on a timely basis, and attendance to court matters as part of our debt recovery process.

You will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Advise and represent NF for all internal and external legal matters as in-house counsel
  • Initiate and pursue legal recovery actions against loan defaulters
  • Attend all National Court hearings
  • Ensure all Civil and Criminal matters are actioned, monitored and updated in a timely manner
  • Arrange filing fees and file all court documents in Court Registry for respective Courts
  • Liaise with and maintain contact with Court Registry for all litigation matters
  • Prepare and review court documents for filing or propose changes as legally required
  • Conduct due diligence checks, title searches, mortgage registration
  • Registration of security interests and such activities
  • Manage the Group’s legal team

Your credentials and characteristics should include:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree.
  • Admitted to practise as a Barrister & Solicitor with right of appearance in all Courts within the PNG jurisdiction.
  • Must have practised as a lawyer for the last 5 consecutive years in a private law firm, or as in-house counsel for a bank or financial institution.
  • Have a current practising certificate for the 2025 Legal Year (or are eligible for a lawyer’s practising certificate) under the Legal Practitioners Act 1987 and the Legal Practitioners (Admission) Rules 1996
  • Be knowledgeable in litigation and civil debt recovery laws.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision, meet deadlines on time and exercise good judgment in using initiative to get the job done satisfactorily.
  • Provide a Police Clearance.
  • Credible personal character and be of sober habits.
  • Computer literate with advanced MS Office skills.
  • Possess excellent research, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be available to work on Saturdays as required.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate corporate image and actions at all times.
